35% of IKEA wood usage to be FSC-certified by 2012
In 2009, IKEA’s FSC-certified wood purchases rose from 16 percent to 24 percent and according to their 2010 Sustainability Report, IKEA plans to increase that amount to 35% by 2012.
“Our long-term goal is to source all wood used in IKEA products from forests verified as responsibly managed, according to a system recognized by IKEA. Today, Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), including Forest Management (FM) and Chain of Custody (CoC) standards, is the only certification scheme recognized by IKEA.”
