Dick Kouwenhoven, a Canadian printing icon, past FSC Canada Board member and fellow FSC member, passed away on April 25, 2017.

Dick was the founder of Hemlock Printers Ltd., based in Burnaby, BC, which became the first FSC-certified printing company in British Columbia back in 2005.

When Hemlock first became certified, Dick said “sustainability is a highly important topic. Many clients are looking for a proven method to reduce their footprint on the environment, such as using recycled papers. And, of course, FSC®-certification plays a major role in that.”

Dick also spent two years on FSC Canada’s Board of Directors from 2006-2008 helping to move FSC in the right strategic direction in Canada.

“Dick was a great part of pushing FSC forward not only on a strategic level but also on a practical level through Hemlock Printers” says Andrew Tremblay, Chair of the FSC Canada Board of Directors.

FSC Canada will always remember Dick’s dedication and kind nature. He will truly be missed.
