FSC International is reviewing its Small & Low Intensity Forest Eligibility Criteria

FSC International is hosting a public consultation on a report reviewing the Small and Low Intensity Managed Forests (SLIMF) Eligibility Criteria from March 12 – April 11, 2021.

FSC’s SLIMF Eligibility Criteria defines 'small' (in size) and 'low intensity' (in harvesting volume) managed forests for the purpose of implementing streamlined certification procedures.

The first version of FSC-STD-01-003, SLIMF Eligibility Criteria was published in 2004 and has not been revised since. After 17 years of implementation, it is now recommended to conduct a full revision. This should expand the scope of the standard to cover and include all uses of the SLIMF concept within the FSC system to improve consistency and transparency. Further, it shall introduce an objective and transparent mechanism to develop and approve nationally-adapted thresholds for ‘small’ and ‘low intensity’ managed forests.
