On December 8, 2020, FSC International withdrew FSC-ADV-40-004-19, which required all FSC-certified companies, with exceptions, to disclose which tree species are included in their FSC-certified products. The existing requirement for information on tree species from the FSC standard FSC-STD-40-004 continues to apply.

The advice note was originally intended to address specific integrity risks associated with species information in the FSC system. FSC will establish a task force to re-examine how information on tree species is handled, collected and used, and how it can be better integrated into the FSC database and new technological solutions. The advice note may be optimized and return later with different content.
