The Working Group has been established to provide strategic direction in the development of the National Controlled Wood Risk Assessment and recommend risk designations for forest regions across Canada.

The Controlled Wood Working Group consists of the following representatives from each of FSC Canada's four Chambers (Aboriginal, Economic, Environmental and Social):

Tawney Lem (Aboriginal Peoples Chamber) is an FSC auditor that has extensive experience in working with First Nations across Canada through FSC Forest Management certification. Tawney's expertise includes governance policy development and land use planning, FSC auditing and LEED building facilitation.

Samuel Elkins (Economic Chamber) is a Registered Forestry Professional in Alberta and an independent consultant specializing in certification. Until very recently Samuel was the Continuous Improvement Coordinator for Daishowa-Marubeni International, a pulp producer, in Peace River Alberta. In this capacity Samuel lead all certification efforts including FSC Controlled Wood and represented his company in several technical committees of the Canadian Boreal Initiative.  Samuel has completed the ISO 14001 Lead Auditor training in 2006 and has participated in a number of environmental compliance audits with the BC Forest Practices Board.

Dave Pearce (Environmental Chamber) has worked for Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society since 2003 on issues related to forest management and focus on boreal forest and caribou management. He is currently sits on the Canadian Boreal Forest Agreement Secretariat as the Ontario Regional Working Group Coordinator. David studied Biology at Trent University and graduated with a Masters in Forest Conservation from the University of Toronto. He has enjoyed a variety of forestry field research and writing experiences with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources in Central Ontario, wildlife field research in Algonquin Park with the University of Toronto.

Jamal Kazi (Social Chamber) is a forest certification and policy consultant on socio-economic and First Nations issues and a senior auditor for Rainforest Alliance. Following graduate studies in public participation in forest resources management, he completed several mandates in social forestry and with multi-stakeholder tables. He has a thorough knowledge of the FSC, having worked with the FSC Maritimes and international secretariats, and was a co-founder and coordinator of the FSC Quebec standards development initiative in 2000. As of 2003, he leads Rainforest Alliance audit teams in Canada and abroad, and has audited and helped implement both FM and CoC FSC systems. He has completed SmartWood auditor training in 2004 and ISO 14000 Lead Auditor training in 2010. He is co-author of the chapter on forest certification in the Manuel de Foresterie, Éditions MultiMonde.
