The revised FSC Pesticides Policy incorporates a risk-based approach. It considers not only the hazard of the active ingredient, but also under what circumstances chemical pesticides is used.

The short-term objective of the FSC Pesticides Policy is to reduce the overall volume and number of chemical pesticides and eliminate the use of the most hazardous ones. It also helps promote best practices to minimize risks to human health and the environment.

The long-term aim of this policy is to eliminate the use of chemical pesticides in FSC-certified forests.

The full implementation of the FSC Pesticides Policy will require the development of international generic indicators (IGIs) and their incorporation into the national contexts. FSC will launch call for applicants to join a new working group to develop the IGIs in the near future.

The working group incorporated a mechanism for an interim implementation into the policy document. This mechanism will be effective from August 2019 until the development and inclusion of the IGIs have been completed.

The revised FSC Pesticides Policy is now available in the FSC Document Center.
