A Transfer Procedure (FSC-PRO-60-006) has been developed by FSC International to provide a framework for the transfer process and facilitate development of national indicators.

When developing FSC Canada’s National Forest Management Standard, the FSC Canada Standards Development Group will assess each International Generic Indicator against one of the following options:

  • Adopt: copy the International Generic Indicator into the National Forest Management Standard.
  • Adapt: review and revise the International Generic Indicator in order to address terminology, scope, or effectiveness in measuring conformance to a Criterion.
  • Drop: omit the International Generic Indicator where it is determined to be inapplicable or otherwise non-contributing in measuring conformance to a Criterion.
  • Add: suggest additional indicators in order to better establish conformance to a Criterion.

FSC Canada’s Standard Development Group, six Technical Expert Panels, staff and consultants have been working to review the IGIs in order to make the transfer appropriate for a Canadian context. Preliminary draft indicators have been developed across all Principles and, over the coming months, will be reviewed further in order to reach cross-chamber support by the Standards Development Group and FSC Canada Board of Directors. A public consultation on the first draft of the standard is expected to take place late summer 2015.
