According to Daryl Skworchinski, the Chair of NFMC’s Board of Directors, “obtaining FSC Certification on the Big Pic Forest clearly demonstrates our commitment to manage our forests sustainability, support our industry partners and help facilitate local community and First Nation economic development.”

The word ‘Nawiinginokiima’ itself is an Ojibway word that means “working together” and brings First Nations, local communities, ministry officials and industry together. Parts of the Forest are traditional territory of Pic River Ojibway First Nation, Long Lake 58, Ginoogaming, and Pic Mobert. Constance Lake First Nation, which has an Indian Reserve at Calstock, also has an interest in the Forest, as does the Hornepayne Aboriginal Community and Métis people of Ontario

NFMC (Big Pic Forest) has certified 638,133 hectares to FSC's National Boreal Standard.
