In February 2012 the FSC membership approved the first major revision to the global Principles and Criteria (P&C), marking the beginning of an important next phase in FSC’s work: the development of International Generic Indicators(IGI) which will serve as the basis of all FSC Forest Management Standards.

The purpose of the International Generic Indicators (IGIs) is to ensure consistentapplication of the global P&C so that the intent of the P&C is sharedacross all countries. 

The first Public Consultation on the International Generic Indicators is now open from February 18, 2013 to April 30, 2013. The initial draft for consultation includes Principles 1 to 5 and Principles 8 and 9. A second package will be available on March 1 and will contain Principles 6, 7 and 10.The consultation period will officially end 60 days after the second package has been posted. We strongly encourage participation by all FSC stakeholders and hope to provide you with some tools to keep you informed:  

FSC International IGI website  http://igi.fsc.org/ is dedicated to the development of IGIs and associated drafts, reports, and additional materials. You can access the draft indicators here. 

Webinars: FSC Canada and FSC US are planning to host two webinars outlining the process of IGI development and consultation – proposed times are Feb 26 at 3pm EST and Feb 28 at 11am EST. These webinars will be scheduled for 1 hour including a 30 minute presentation and 30 minutes discussion. You will need to register in order to participate, through the below links: ·
