Background

In February 2012, the FSC membership approved the first major revision to the global Principles and Criteria (P&C),marking the beginning of an important next phase in FSC’s work: the development of International Generic Indicators (IGI) which will serve as the basis of all FSC Forest Management Standards.

The purpose of the International Generic Indicators (IGIs) is to ensure consistent application of the global P&C so that the intent of the P&Cis shared across all countries.

The first Public Consultation on the International Generic Indicators is now open from February 18, 2013 to April 30, 2013. The initial draft for consultation includes Principles 1 to 5 and Principles 8 and 9. A second package will be available on March 1 and will contain Principles 6, 7 and 10.The consultation period will officially end 60 days after the second package has been posted.

The First Public Consultation on the International Generic Indicators (IGIs) is now open until April 30, 2013.
