Throughout the day the EOMF took all attendees on a journey through time exploring how our forests and their management have changed over the past three decades, as well as discussing what is on the horizon for forestry.

Even after 30 years, many local woodlot owners attended the conference, proving that there is a strong interest and sense of community which is rarely found elsewhere in Ontario. FSC Canada is proud to support the EOMF in bringing forest owners together by providing a much-needed framework for forest management guidance and support.

The EOMF and the FSC

The EOMF is a not-for-profit, charitable organization that is one of 15 large-scale working model forests that represent the five major forest ecoregions of Canada. The EOMF works with government, landowners, industry, First Nations, non-government organizations and others to develop new ways to sustain and manage our forest resources.

Over a decade ago the EOMF recruited 20 forest owners in the pursuit of Forest Stewardship Council® certification and in 2003 received an FSC certificate that covered an area of 1,700 hectares. From this modest start, the area now certified under the Forest Certification Program totals over 83,650 hectares.
